How is modular GREEN?
The manufacturing process is designed to utilize all materials in the most efficient way possible. The framing material is cut and all scrap is recycled into blocking and smaller studs or joists. The efficient use of material reduces the waste produced.
Sheathing material is bought in 8’ & 9’ lengths to increase efficiencies of material. 90% of cut off material is used in our product as blocking for cabinets or mating wall sheathing. Again the efficient use of material reduces waste.
Drywall material is purchased in 4’ & 4’-6” widths and at lengths of 8’, 12’, 14’ & 16’ to increase efficiencies of material use and reduce waste. Much of the cut off drywall pieces are used as blocking behind drywall seams, reducing drywall cracks during shipments. These blocks are secured to the backside of drywall with access drywall compound, which reduces waste.
Materials used in our product that are created by use of recycled material and environmentally friendly manufacturing facilities.
1) Oriented Strand Board (OSB) sheathing, made of recycled wood chips.
2) Finger jointed studs, made from short recycled lumber creating standard studs. 2 x 4 & 6 studs.
3) I joists, OSB used as floor joists in place of solid 2 x 10 joists. Reduces the use of solid wood framing and increase the use of pre-engineered joists using recycled material.
4) Framing procedures are designed to efficiently use material and reduce waste.
Low-E Housewrap, Insulation. Rates R-4.17, acts as Air Infiltration Wrap. Manufactured from recycled material. Material installs the same way as standard building wrap and at only ¼” thickness.
